Our Story

Surfacestheory was born from a shared passion for transforming ordinary surfaces into powerful visual statements. Founded by scenic artists Pavel Pesta and Brad Benischek, the studio blends more than two decades of experience across film, television, high-end residential and commercial projects, and large-scale special events. From sculpted textures and murals to refined faux finishes and decorative plasterwork, our work merges traditional craftsmanship with a cinematic eye for atmosphere. We believe every surface tells a story, and it’s our mission to make that story unforgettable.

Meet the Team

Pavel

Pavel Pesta is a scenic artist, painter, and plasterer with over 22 years of experience in film and television. Originally trained in graphic design, Pavel has led paint departments on major TV and film productions since 2010, including serving as Charge Scenic on NCIS: New Orleans. His work spans scenic art, murals, plaster textures, faux finishes, sculpting, and signage applied across film sets, interiors, and high-end event environments. With a refined sense of material, texture, and atmosphere, Pavel brings artistic depth and precision to every surface.

Brad

From fine art to street art, for nearly 40 years Brad Benischek has been creating worlds. His work has appeared in books, galleries, museums and over 50 films and television shows. He attended Parsons School of Design in New York and received his MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. For the last 30 years he has been raising a family, working and showing art in New Orleans.
